Warwick oozes small town charm.
It’s cute and homey and crafty with an adorable family friendly feel.
But what’s a #hudsonvalleyhipster to do in a place like that?
Find the cool and unusual, of course.
Here’s some ideas of what to do on a hipster first date in Warwick, NY.
Start with coffee (duh) at Caffe a la Mode, 1 Oakland Ave, Warwick, NY.
They brew up about ten different roasts and origin coffee, their french roast is my fav. They do fresh baked goods too if you wanna split a giant cookie with your coffee. Stay and chill in the vintage 50’s ice cream parlor inspired decor or take your coffee to go and enjoy a small town stroll.
Head north down Main street for some charming window shopping. Ye Old Book Shoppe, Frazzleberries, and Reclaimed Consignment are some local stores that might just turn you from pedestrian to purchaser.
See if you are smell compatible in Frazzleberries as you check out Blue Lake Handmade for local natural soap, lip balm and deodorant (ahem, why, yes, that is a shameless plug of my friend’s incredible products).
Note: along Main street you will also pass Wolfies and Trattoria Viviano, two restaurants that are worth checking out on future dates.
Ok so commercialism aside, you’ve now arrived at the (drumroll please) public library!
Albert Wisner is the name of the “Best Small Library in America 2016″. An important local historical site, this library opened its doors in 1927 and has been a special part of the community ever since. 1 McFarland Drive, Warwick, NY is where you will find Storywalk, an outdoor reading exhibit on display until mid September.
It’s a brief but utterly adorable exhibit designed to get children to read outdoors this summer, with books displayed under glass along a garden path.
Next make a loop back towards where you started, head over to the Conscious Fork vegan restaurant/art space for a healthy dinner at 14 Railroad Ave, Warwick, NY.
Split a tex mex karma bowl and try some juice shots to find your glow. Hang a while enjoying the local art before hopping into the car and heading out for ice cream and some contrast in life.
Bellvale Ice Cream at 1390 Route 17A, Warwick, NY is open April 1 through October 30 noon to 9pm. There are 50 flavors of ice cream to choose from (spoiler, they are all good). Do yourself a favor and get yours in a house-made waffle cone. Come for the ice cream stay for the view. Enjoy your treat while looking down the mountain over a gorgeous valley full of farm houses. It’s an experience.
Take your ice cream tummy down to the famed vintage Warwick Drive In Movie theater at 5 Warwick Turnpike, Warwick NY. Movies start at dusk, showing a double feature every night. Audio hooks up to your car’s sound system so you can chill in your car with concession stand popcorn and a bottle of wine you may or may not have happened to smuggle in. Doesn’t everybody keep a bottle of red, plastic glasses and a corker in their trunk?
Pro tip: bring a blanket and some pillows to get snuggly.
